The aspect ratio calculator solves three distinct problems that video editors, graphic designers, and web developers encounter daily. The "Fit to Ratio" mode instantly computes missing dimensions — if you know a target width and your required ratio (say, 16:9 for a YouTube thumbnail), it calculates the exact height without rounding errors. The "New Dimensions" mode reverses this: paste any two dimensions and instantly see the simplified ratio, useful when reverse-engineering existing designs.

The most overlooked feature is the PPI (Pixels Per Inch) calculator. PPI = √(width² + height²) ÷ diagonal inches. Apple's Retina threshold is 220 PPI at typical viewing distance, where individual pixels become invisible to the naked eye. A 1920×1080 display at 27" gives 82 PPI (standard), while a 1920×1080 display at 15.6" gives 141 PPI (HD). This matters for print exports: 300 DPI is the professional print standard, meaning a 3000×2000px image prints at 10" × 6.67" at 300 DPI.

The golden ratio preset (φ ≈ 1.618) is particularly useful in UI design and photography composition. The golden rectangle appears throughout classical architecture and Renaissance art, and studies suggest it correlates with aesthetic preference in controlled conditions.
