Volumetric Weight Calculator
Calculate the volumetric (DIM) weight of your cargo using the standard 3000 divisor formula. Compare with actual weight to find your billable shipping cost.
📐 How is it calculated?
Volumetric Weight (kg) = (Length × Width × Height) / Divisor. Most carriers use 3,000 (Turkey standard). International air cargo often uses 5,000 or 6,000.
⚠️ Disclaimer
This tool uses the standard 3,000 divisor used by Turkish cargo companies. Some logistics firms may use different divisors (e.g. 5,000). Calculations are advisory only. The official shipping fee is determined by the carrier's own measurement systems. Numvion cannot be held liable for any financial discrepancies arising from calculation differences.
The Volumetric Weight Calculator computes the dimensional (DIM) weight used by DHL, FedEx, UPS, TNT and most major carriers to determine shipping charges. When a package is large but light, carriers charge based on volumetric weight rather than actual weight — whichever is greater. Understanding this prevents unexpected surcharges and allows accurate carrier comparison.
The standard formula is Length x Width x Height (in centimetres) divided by 5000 for international air freight. A box measuring 60 x 40 x 30 cm weighing just 2 kg has a volumetric weight of 14.4 kg (72,000 / 5000) — you pay for 14.4 kg despite the package weighing 2 kg. Road freight may use a divisor of 4000, and economy services sometimes use 6000. Always verify the correct divisor with your carrier before comparing quotes, as it directly affects the final cost. The charged weight is always the greater of actual and volumetric weight.
To minimise shipping costs, use the smallest box that safely contains your product and choose lightweight packaging. Weigh and measure precisely — carriers re-measure and adjust invoices accordingly.
